About Stony Brook Now!

Stony Brook Now is an online news publication of the School of Journalism reported by Stony Brook students using video and the written word.

It was created to provide a forum for the School of Journalism’s coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election. Students will cover the election on a national,local, and campus level, paying special attention to the youth vote.

A live blog will run throughout election day and a live election newscast will begin in the late afternoon. You will also find print and video stories throughout the day that will take the pulse of the Stony Brook campus. Stony Brook Now will be posting the results of its own, exit polling. Student journalists will report from the SAC polling site and from election night events throughout the campus the university. As election results come in, Stony Brook Now will provide real time updates.

Stony Brook Now is also providing links to a variety of election websites across the political spectrum and to websites of campus publications throughout the United States.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that exit polls aren't notoriously fickle. Let's just assume for a moment that they should be taken with more than a grain of salt. Obama is leading in six battleground states according to the Huffington Post. In all seriousness, Democratic candidates over perform in exit polls and voters who are more enthusiastic and skew younger like Obama's supporters are more likely to participate in exit polls.

The states looking good for Obama:

Florida: 52 percent to 44 percent
Iowa: 52 percent to 48 percent
Missouri: 52 percent to 48 percent
North Carolina: 52 percent to 48 percent
New Hampshire: 57 percent to 43 percent
Nevada: 55 percent to 45 percent
Pennsylvania: 57 percent to 42 percent
Ohio: 54 percent to 45 percent
Wisconsin: 58 percent to 42 percent
Indiana: 52 percent to 48 percent
New Mexico: 56 percent to 43 percent
Minnesota: 60 percent to 39 percent
Michigan: 60 percent to 39 percent

The states where McCain is leading in exit polls:

Georgia: 51 percent to 47 percent
West Virginia: 45 percent to 55 percent
